Rev. Mark Peters is the Director of the LCPPM. A significant part of the Rev. Mark Peters’ Ministry at the coalition since 1995 has been to address global warming by establishing and providing faith-based training to Minnesota congregation creation care teams.

Rev. Peters has been instrumental in bringing polar explorer Will Steger’s “Global Warming Solutions” events to faith communities across the state. Several of the events in ELCA congregations topped 1000 people in attendance, including one hosted by Concordia College in Moorhead. Many of the Steger forums had over 500 people in attendance. Additional training was provided to almost 400 people representing 176 congregations through five Lutheran Earthkeeping Network of the Synods (LENS) events this past summer, including one hosted by Trinity Lutheran Church of Moorhead. These five workshops enjoyed participation from synod staff leaders representing all six ELCA Minnesota synods and included Bishops Jon Anderson, Craig Johnson, Peter Rogness and Larry Wohlrabe.

Mark has been married for 24 years and is the father of two young boys, ages six and nine. He manages his family farm in Wisconsin that has recently been awarded the Wildlife Habitat Stewardship Award from Richland County for conservation practices. His background includes a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Master of Divinity and Master of Theology degrees from Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minn.

LCPPM welcomes our newest intern, Amy Chatelaine, who joins us for the summer of 2011.  A senior at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, she is funded by a Lilly Grant through St. Olaf’s program “Leaders for Social Change.”  LSC is providing Amy and twelve of her classmates the opportunity for a summer of vocational exploration within the non-profit sector.

Jillian Emery graduated from Luther College in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Social Welfare. She just completed her first year at Luther Seminary where she is creating her own Master's program in Children, Youth and Family Ministry, Outdoor Ministry and Environmental Ministry.

This summer she worked for Luther Seminary, traveling to ELCA camps to talk with counselors and high school campers about discernment.  She also used this time to also better understand how our camps can be more environmentally friendly and adopt parts of Lutherans Restoring Creation recommendations.  Her time with LCPPM will be focused on Lutheran's Restoring Creation and helping churches in the metro area implement LRC suggestions in their congregations.  She will be interning with LCPPM until May 2012 when she graduates from Luther Seminary.

    Martin Luther

"It is true that we are justified by faith alone without works, but I speak of the true faith which after it justifies does not snore lazily."
