Get Involved: Network - Educate - Advocate
Network
There are many ways to get involved in the advocacy work of the ELCA at local, state and national levels. Please read more to learn about the many opportunities to join our network, and also to volunteer.
Educate
As part of the LCPPM’s education ministry, we invite your congregation to participate in a Hunger simulation. Please contact us if you are interested in having us facilitate a Hunger 101 simulation at your church. We also conduct workshops and presentations on other topics.
Advocate
Amplify the voices that are working at the State Capitol to engage policy makers in creating laws that fairly address issues of poverty, fair taxation, human rights, health care, children, and the environment.
Contact your legislator
It is always important to reach out to your Minnesota State Senators and Representatives. At the state level, every call counts; in fact, as few as 5-10 calls send a very significant message. You can call them at any time and leave a message. If the legislator is unavailable, you may speak with his/her legislative assistant. Remember that you do not need to be an expert on any of the issues.
You can find your legislator and their phone number at: www.gis.leg.mn/OpenLayers/districts/
The key things you need to say are:
1. Where you are from
2. What church you go to
3. What you care about. Example: You care about the most vulnerable
4. Your solution. Example:
Write a Letter to the Editor
